Memories of small Africa
A digital platform dedicated to the organization, location and appreciation of characters, places, institutions, heritage, cultural manifestations and community experiences related to the black presence in the Central and Port Region of Rio de Janeiro.
Memories of Little Africa it is a platform of historical, cultural and community cartography that gathers and connects information about the african and african-brazilian presence in the formation of Rio de Janeiro.
Through an interactive map, the project presents stories related to Small Africa, Morro da Providence, the Port Region and other territories linked to the trajectories of the black population.
Each point on the map can represent a personality, institution, heritage, cultural manifestation, space of sociability, historical event or experience of resistance.
The platform articulates technology, historical research, data organization and territorial knowledge to expand access to memory and strengthen the right of communities to know, preserve and communicate their own stories.
The platform brings together a broad information base, maintained in a continuous process of research, review, location and documentation, with the active participation of the community.
The Small Africa Memory platform articulates memory, technology, education, research and community participation to democratize access to black stories and strengthen links between territory, culture, memory and right to the city.

Memoirs of Small Africa is an initiative of Galeria Providence, created from the performance of the institution in the territory and its commitment to memory, culture, education, social technology and the appreciation of black stories of the Port Region of Rio de Janeiro.
