Communication and Communitarian Articulation

We implement actions to strengthen ties between communities, territories and networks through the production of own communication narratives, the circulation of reliable information and the creation of strategies for mobilization and collective participation.

The favela has its own way of communicating with the body, images, sounds and spaces. The Providence Gallery recognizes and strengthens this communicative power as a tool of mobilization, belonging and narrative dispute. In a context where they almost always talk about the favela from the outside to the inside, we affirm the right to speak for ourselves, with our own codes and visions of the world. To produce communication, for us, is to expand voices, create bonds and connect the territory with other spaces, inside and outside the city.

We act to open listening and exchange paths that strengthen the community organization, digital and communication literacy, access to quality information and the ability to act politically. Because communicating to us is also transforming reality together.

School of Communication

We live in a time when almost everything goes through screens and networks. Therefore, ensuring access to information is a fundamental right, especially in territories where hegemonic narratives historically make local reality invisible or distorted, and where social barriers hinder this access.

In this line of action, we form communicators and producers of content from the experience of the territory. We believe in communication as a tool of collective expression and strengthening the right to communication, expanding the voices of the territory and connecting residents to different languages and platforms. Our main project in this line is the Gallust of Providence, a school-agency of communication created and led by young people from the hill and its surroundings.

The training is based on a methodology constructed collectively, which unites critical theory, experience of the territory and practice. At the end of the process, young people who stand out are invited to join the agency team, which today provides digital communication services to organizations and companies in the region.

Territorial Involvement

We're from Providence and we work for Providence. Our commitment is to mobilize residents in actions that transform the territory from our own perspectives, placing the favela at the center of decisions about art, culture and politics. For this, we keep alive our capacity for connection, listening and articulation in the territory. It is this daily bond that gives strength, truth and purpose to our work.

This line of action brings together initiatives that approach the Gallery of residents; going from door-to-door actions ed institutional joints ensuring access to rights, goods and services. Each action is also a form of strengthening the feeling of belonging and reaffirming that Providence has its own protagonists.
